The sun will become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before that great and terrible day of the Lord arrives. (Joel 2:31)
Much has been made about the series of four blood moons, or total lunar eclipses, on Jewish feast days, the first of which occurred on Passover this year and the last of which will happen on the Feast of Tabernacles in 2015.
But is this set of blood moons (so named because the face of the moon turns red during the eclipse) really more than just an interesting series of astronomical events? I explored that.
The tetrad—or four consecutive total lunar eclipses—is described as “extraordinary” on NASA’s website because they are rare. In fact, according to NASA, no tetrads occurred during the 300 years from 1600 to 1900.
For these lunar eclipses to happen on Jewish feast days makes the 2014-2015 tetrad even more noteworthy. Combine that with the fact that the Bible says God created the sun, moon and stars to be used for signs (in addition to distinguishing days, seasons and years), and that should further pique curiosity.
Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years…” (Genesis 1:14)
According to Strong’s concordance, the Hebrew word signs in Genesis 1:14 means “distinguishing mark.” It is the same word used when God “marked” Cain so no one would kill him. It is also the same word He used to describe the rainbow as a “token” of his covenant promise to never again flood the earth.
So, NASA says tetrads are rare occurrences, and the Bible says God uses the sun, moon and stars as a way of signaling or speaking to us. Since Genesis 1:14 mentions the sun, it’s relevant to mention there also will be a total solar eclipse in the midst of the current tetrad. What makes all of this particularly interesting is there are scriptures that predict the occurrence of blood moons and solar eclipses as signs of extraordinary end times events.
The sun will become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before that great and terrible day of the Lord arrives. (Joel 2:31)
I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. (Revelation 6:12)
These two scriptures seem to be describing the same event: the “great and terrible day of the Lord” foretold in Joel (and Acts) and the “great day of the wrath of the Lamb” that follows the unsealing of the Sixth Seal in Revelation. Both verses reveal that the timeframe of the Day of the Lord will be marked by total lunar and solar eclipses.
So, if we are at the time of the Sixth Seal of Revelation, we also can expect other signs, including the “stars of heaven” falling to the earth and a “great earthquake” that “moves every mountain and island out of its place.”
It also would mean the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, which are described after the opening of the first four seals, are riding now. The first of those riders, who is on a white horse, sets out “conquering and to conquer” and is believed by many Bible scholars to be the Antichrist or the beast of Revelation 13. The second rides on a red horse and takes peace from the earth. The third rides on a black horse and has a pair of scales, and the price of food skyrockets. The fourth rider, Death, is on a pale horse, and with his riding comes mass death by weapons, hunger and through animals (which could mean a pandemic). After the opening of the fifth seal, the Apostle John, the author of Revelation, writes about some of those who are martyred because of their faith.
It is sobering to consider where we may be in the chronology of the last days. It is a period of great upheaval, but it is also a perfect time to turn to Jesus as is suggested at the end of Joel 2.
The sun will become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before that great and terrible day of the Lord arrives. But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Joel 2:32a)
Don’t forget the end of Joel 2:32 my friend. The instructions for the remnant are contained in part “b” of Joel 2:32
“The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon into blood before the great and dreadful day of the Lord come. And it shall come to pass that whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be delivered. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said. And in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.” Joel 2:32
Line must be upon line, line upon line and precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept. When doing so we get to know the gameplan of God. For He has said, surely He will do nothing, unless He first reveals His secrets unto His servants the prophets! Yes, Jesus Christ told us that He has told us everything beforehand! Therefore the prophets tell us what must be done by the remnant in these last days. Thus saith the Lord:
“1I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand. 2Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof. 3And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him, 4And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein: 5For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.
6Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD. 7Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.” Zechariah 2:1-7
Got to get out of Babylon the Great and then go to where God will be a wall of fire roundabout. For thus saith the Lord:
“Come out of her my people that ye be not partakers of her sins and that ye receive not of her plagues.” Revelation 18:4
“You who have escaped the sword, go away, stand not still: remember the LORD afar off, and let Jerusalem come to your mind.” Jeremiah 50:51
Jerusalem shall be a burdensome stone in the last days and God will destroy all who come against her! Thus, God will set a wall of defense in Jerusalem and He shall measure the walls and foundations of all people when He rises to the battle. And guess what? If your house isn’t built upon the Rock, your house will be found lacking because it was built upon the sand! For thus saith the Lord:
“Thus he showed me: and behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in His hand. And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more.” Amos 7:7-8
Only the wise virgins will be on the wall built by the Lord when He rises for the prey and shakes terribly the earth. Therefore we must continue to watch and pray so that we can escape all these things that are going to come on the earth, so that we can stand before the Son of Man! Hallelujah!
